Château d'Amboise

The Castle is in the Indre-et-Loire in the Loire Valley in France.



It is located above the town of Amboise.


People can see the Loire and the countryside castle.


It is located above the city because it is originally a fort.


Château d'Amboise was built in XI century by the aristocratic Anjou. Francis helped with the construction too.

Château d'Amboise is originally in the French Gothic style.

It is decorated in the Italian redesigned in 1495 by Domenico da Cortona and Fra Giocondo. The decorators redesigned the castle in the decorated Renaissance. This is the first castle in Renaissance style.

Charles VIII stretch gardens. Pasello da Mercogliano, an Italian priest, redesigned the gardens. This is the first built in the garden decorated Italian.

The Castle is divided into two houses. But just one remains today.


During the revolution, four-fifths of the castle were destroyed. Today, visitors are just one fifth of the castle.

The Chapel of St. Hubert was built and in 1491 by Charles eighth and his wife Anne Britain. It is in Gothic architecture.

Francis first to invited Leonardo da Vinci at the Chateau. He is buried in the Chapel of St. Hubert in the castle. Saint Florentin discovered the body of Leonardo sixty years after Napoleon destroy the castle.
