William the Conqueror

He was born at Falaise to 1027.
He is the illegitimate son of Robert the Magnificent and Arlette.
It is also known as William the Conqueror, William II of Normandy, and finally, William I of England.


William became Duke of Normandy to the death of his father Robert the Magnificent in 1035.


William married Matilda of Flanders, but Pope Leo IX does not accept the marriage.
He had four son and six daughters with Matilde.



William defeated Harold at the Battle of Hastings.
After the Battle of Hastings in 1066 he succeeded in capturing the British Crown.
It is the first modern king.


The achievements of William: He spent
Continental system of feudalism. The Oath of Salisbury

The principal nobles had to be loyal to William.
Book of Doomsday (Domesday Book)
Saving the large inventory of England completed in 1086.


He has created the Castle of Caen to 1060.


He died in Rouen September 9, 1087.
