Salon Nautique International de Paris was not built in a day! The history of this show is full of surprises and revolutions.
Considering that the first International Boat Show Paris was held at the CNIT in January 1962, do not forget that he had parents and grandparents before her birth. The first pleasure boats have even been living at the beginning of the century in the Grand Palais, in the middle of the car! Then the first boaters were invited on the banks of the Seine and boating industries have begun to organize itself, to emancipate themselves from shipbuilding.
the early '60s, the foundation of the Federation of Nautical Industries were then discarded and the CNIT housed under the arches of prestressed concrete, the first true boat show International Paris. The heater does not work yet, there was hardly any public transport, and the CNIT sat in the middle of a gigantic construction site of mud, fences and cranes ... 50 years ago, it was already a good dose of passion to dare to create an international exhibition in Paris in those conditions!
Always largest
Yet, the early editions, the success was the appointment: 23,000 sqm in 1962, 65,000 in 1965, 80,000 in 1968, 85,000 in 1972. In less than ten editions, the CNIT was already becoming too small! Boats must wait until December 1988 to recover a little space with the move to the Porte de Versailles, which will double the available space. Nautic grow steadily to occupy 6 halls in 2008, more than 170,000 sqm. The equivalent of 25 football fields!
A passionate public
The public has always been faithful to the appointment. Than 58,000 visitors in 1962 to more than 300,000 90s, Nautic gathers each year an exceptional number of enthusiasts. Since 1987, the number of entries is certified by the Audit Bureau of Statistics, and stabilizes around 250,000 visitors after emancipation Show's Pool and Spa in 2003. If one considers that there are about 500,000 pleasure boats in operation in France, Nautic is truly a living passion. Imagine such a ratio in other sectors such as automotive, motorhome, motorcycle, bike or mountain! The typology of these fans has also evolved with changes in society, but the singularity of the French sailing is to be always remained popular in the 70s to 90s, pensioners and unemployed increased from 6 to 15% and workers and employees from 26 to 28% of visitors. In addition, two thirds of visitors come from afar! Paris has always been a boat show in hand, totally non-standard in the muffled world of international yachting.
